Food Safety Policy

Food Safety and Environment Policy

At the CADÍ Cooperative, founded in 1915, we collect the milk of our associated dairy farmers every day. This allows us to provide full assurance of the source and quality of our milk, which we use to produce different cheeses, butter, mató -whey cheese- and other dairy products. Through our activity, we help to organize and to vivify the territory formed by the Pyrenean regions of L’Alt Urgell and La Cerdanya, permitting our dairy-farming partners and the workers at our production facilities to make a worthy living. And thanks to all this, our consumers can enjoy quality products from our local area. Just as our motto says, at Cadí “we give life to our land”.

We produce two special items, Urgèlia cheese and CADÍ butter, which bear the prestigious seal of our Protected Designation of Origin.

We are very careful about our food safety, applying the standard ISO 22000: 2018 version. In addition to assuring the safety and hygiene of foods, this standard covers other key aspects of the food chain, including nutrition, labeling, traceability, animal health and the environment.

Along this same line, we are developing an Environmental Management System (EMS) addressed to enhancing the sustainability of CADÍ SCCL’s activities.

To make all this possible, the Management of CADÍ, SCCL firmly and continuously undertakes to:

  • Provide our customers and consumers with safe products of the highest quality to meet their needs and requirements, adapting our offering to the market’s demands.
  • Establish and review our food safety and sustainability goals, devoting all the necessary human, technological and financial resources to achieve them.
  • Enhance our management system in order to assure the safety of the foods we produce, taking suitable action in all phases of production.
  • Identify the environmental aspects of our activity and implement measures aimed to minimize its impacts, making continuous progress towards sustainable improvement.
  • Comply with the applicable food safety and sustainability requirements, including all the pertinent legal and regulatory standards and the requirements established by mutual agreement with our customers.
  • Facilitate our internal and external communication mechanisms.
  • Uphold our food safety culture, promoting the involvement of everyone who forms part of our organization and providing them with the necessary tools to optimize their training and safety at work. In particular, we make every effort to assure the competence of all our personnel in matters of food safety. Likewise, we promote the awareness and training of our personnel in the environmental field so that they can actively contribute to environmental conservation in the performance of their tasks.
  • Keep our organization informed of the latest updates of the applicable legal standards and of our customers’ requirements, and of the latest advances in the new technologies, in order to constantly upgrade our production of safe foods with the best and most environment-friendly technologies.
  • Inform about and review, on a continuous basis, all the risks associated with the authenticity of our raw materials and of our finished products, and report on and assess the environmental impacts of our production processes.
  • Advise our Cooperative’s partners on the enhancement of their milk’s quality in order to assure the highest standards of quality and the continued maintenance of the Animal Welfare certification of each of their dairy farms.
  • Monitor compliance with the Integral Sustainability Decalogue of the Agrifood Industry in order to raise our standards of achievement to ever higher levels. We seek to optimize the use of resources in our production, promoting the reduction of our environmental impacts and applying policies conceived to reduce the production of wastes and to conserve our environment.
  • Advance towards a model of sustainable and regenerative enterprise in accordance with the highest standards of social and environmental achievement, public transparency and legal responsibility. These standards define the best social, environmental and corporate governance standards.

The Management expressly communicates this policy to all the people who form part of our organization and to those who act in its name, undertaking to carry out a yearly review in order to keep the policy up to date, while providing all the necessary resources to implement it.
